Guido Frick Oil Painting Workshop
October 18-20, 2010
Registration Fee: $595 per student
($100 deposit, $50 refundable until October 8)
Guido Frick is an internationally acclaimed German artist. He received his formal art education from one of Europe's most well-known impressionists, Professor Karel Hodr, and from the Bongart School of Art in California and Idaho. His work has been published in several art books, and he has received the Prix de Salon o Fontainebleau Paris. Frick believes that nature is the only true studio for impressionists. He has painted in the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, and Southern France. However, his heart belongs to the western United States, where his works are shown in various galleries. His artwork is distinguishable by his bold, vigorous and brilliant brushwork and color harmonies.
Guido believes, "If you don't let your feelings come out while painting, nothing will happen on the canvas. The painting should mirror your personality. Be yourself, then your paintings get soul, heart and power."
This workshop will help you to integrate your soul and personal artistic language into your visual impressions. Frick will give you the confidence to choose value, hue, and temperatures quickly and allow you to spend more of your time translating your emotions and excitement into brush strokes. Entry Fee: $25 ($35 if you sign up after October 15)
Allow yourself to be immersed in the beauty of the Ozarks in this open air (en plein air) competition. The Paint Out will consist of two and a half days of painting, including a Quick Draw event and a Night Paint Out. All 2-D mediums are welcome. Registration for this includes a free gift for all participants!
All resort guests as well as the general public will be able to purchase your work during the Saturday evening art show. Prizes will be given to competition winners and the grand prize winner will have their winning artwork displayed on Big Cedar Lodge’s wine bottle for an entire year!
The judging for the competition will be done by Guido Frick. He will also be completing a demonstration painting during the event on Thursday afternoon that will be open for everyone to watch. The painting from this is demo will be auctioned off, with the proceeds benefitting the Branson Arts Council.
Paint Out Check-in At Big Cedar Lodge Registration
Wednesday, October 20 7:00pm-9:00pm & Thursday, October 21, 8:00am-10:00am
Only works completed on site during the days of this competition will be judged. Please get your canvases or other painting surfaces stamped when you register. Even if you participated in the workshop, you will need to bring your canvases to be stamped. You will also receive your free gift at check-in.
Quick Draw
Thursday, October 21, 5:00pm-6:00pm
This competition is limited to a one hour period and a pre-selected location.

Thursday afternoon at approximately 2 pm Guido will hold a free demonstration in front of the Truman Coffee & Cafe. Paint Out participants, guest and the general public are invited to experience this great opportunity! Feel free to bring a chair and get comfy!
Night Paint Out
Friday, October 22, 6:00pm-8:00pm
Paint by the moonlight as the nearly full moon reflects off the surface of Table Rock Lake and illuminates the surroundings. Artists may want to bring a head lamp. Both the Quick Draw and Night Paint Out will be popular spectator events and will be a great way to connect with potential buyers so be sure to bring some business cards.
Closing Day Schedule
Saturday, October 23
2pm Deadline to Turn in Paintings: All works to be judged should be framed or in gallery wrapped canvas, signed on the back, and turned in by 2:00pm.
Judging Period: 2:00pm-3:00pm
Show set up time: 3:30pm-4:30pm
Tables will be provided; however you should bring your own easels. Artists can submit up to 3 paintings for judging. Only works completed at Big Cedar Lodge are eligible for the competition. Depending on space, artists might be able to display three additional pieces for sale that were not completed at Big Cedar Lodge.
Art Show, Sale & Awards Presentation: 5:00pm-8:00pm
The Art Show, Sale & Awards Presentation is open to participants, guests and the general public. Enjoy free wine and appetizers while viewing wonderful works of art! This is an opportunity to see all the art that was created during the week and purchase paintings.
6pm Awards Presentation: At 6:00 pm the winners and wine label will be revealed.

Big Cedar is also committing to a Purchase Award of $500. The winner of the Purchase Award could possibly be the same work as the Best of Show. The winning piece for the Purchase Award will be featured on a wine label for an entire year. The winner will also receive two free cases of the wine with their label.
Rules and Guidelines of the En Plein Air Paint Out
• Artists can submit up to 3 paintings for judging. Only works completed at Big Cedar Lodge are eligible for the competition.
• Blank canvases or other painting surfaces must be stamped at check-in, and submissions must be produced entirely en plein air on Big Cedar Lodge property during the days of the competition. Even if you participated in the workshop, you will need to bring blank canvases to be stamped. Big Cedar Lodge consists of more than 75 acres, so there will be no shortage of different scenes to paint.
• Depending on space, artists might be able to display three additional pieces for sale at the Art Show that were not completed at Big Cedar Lodge.
• A 25% commission will be taken on any paintings sold at Big Cedar Lodge during this competition, and all sales will be handled by Big Cedar Lodge.
• Canvases must not exceed 30" x 30"
• Paintings should be signed on the back ONLY.
• All paintings that you wish to be entered into the competition or that you wish to sell must be framed or in gallery wrapped canvas, signed on the back, and turned in by 2:00pm. (frames are not provided).
• Artists may begin painting for the competition as soon as they have had their canvases stamped.
• Big Cedar will be taking pictures and video of the event. All artists must agree to these images being used in promotional material.
• All paintings must be turned in by 2pm on Saturday to be eligible for a prize.
• When any artwork is purchased by Big Cedar Lodge the artist must sign a release form granting copyrights of the piece to Big Cedar Lodge.
• Liability and Insurance: While precautions will be taken to safeguard artwork while at Big Cedar Lodge, we accept no liability for the loss of, damage to; artwork in transit, in storage or on display during participation in this event.
• Artists are strongly encouraged to insure their artwork.
